New World prevents creation of new characters on full servers

A new feature that prevents New World players from creating characters on full servers is being implemented in the game, according to an official tweet. “Whenever a server is full, the server will be greyed out with the messaging ‘Character Creation temporarily disabled on this server to prevent overpopulation,” the announcement says. At the time of the tweet, 28 servers were already classified as full.  Players who already have characters in full servers don’t need to worry.

MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact launched over a year ago and it’s still going strong. The game surpassed $3 billion in mobile revenue last month, making it one of the most profitable games in the global industry. And soon, it might become available for an even wider audience with a release on Nintendo Switch, adding to the already long list of platforms including Android, iOS, PC, Playstation 4, and PlayStation 5. Although the silence from the developer might indicate that this version had been canceled and wasn’t on the agenda anymore, miHoYo’s global PR specialist Xin Yang suggests otherwise, according to Nintendo News.

Nintendo reportedly swapping to new multiplayer server system

Nintendo will be moving on from its “NEX” multiplayer service system, which has been in use since the 3DS and Wii U, to a new server system called “NPLN.”  According todataminer and programmer OatmealDome, the NEX system is a variant of Quazal Technologies Inc.’s Rendez-Vous online middleware, which was being developed as far back as 2003. Quazal was purchased by Ubisoft in 2010, who then either licensed or sold the Rendez-Vous system to Nintendo.

MTG Arena Historic Horizons Jumpstart: Full details and updates

A new MTG Arena Jumpstart event has been revealed by Wizards of the Coast, containing 31 new Magic: The Gathering cards and hundreds more from Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2.  Scheduled to exclusively release via MTG Arena on Aug. 24, the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons set will showcase three feature mechanics that were designed specifically for digital gameplay. Similar to the previous MTG Arena Jumpstart event, players will choose packs to play with and can unlock any of the Magic cards via Wildcards.

Riot to change names of League’s Coven Malphite and Warwick skins after player feedback

Riot Games will be changing the names of two recently announced League of Legends skins—Coven Malphite and Coven Warwick—following community feedback on the technicality of the skins’ names.  The two skins were announced yesterday, in addition to four other cosmetics for Evelynn, Ashe, Cassiopeia, and Ahri, who will also be joining the Coven skin line alongside Zyra, Morgana, Lissandra, and Camille. Fans took issue with two male champions joining the Coven skin line, a skin line that had been previously reserved for female champions only.

SolaFide Esports owner banned from competitive League for 3 years after not paying players

SolaFide Esports owner Colin “Oddity” Ethan has been banned from all Riot-sponsored esports events after failing to pay the members of his League of Legends team, Riot announced today. The ban, which serves as a retroactive three-year restriction, will last until Jan. 1, 2024. North American organization 100 Thieves has recently practiced without Ethan Arnold and Spencer “Hiko” Martin to make way for three new players on its VALORANT roster, multiple sources told Dot Esports.  The remaining two players, Sean “bang” Bezerra and Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, played alongside SoaR in-game leader Brenden “stellar” McGrath, former Built by Gamers player William Cheng, and Rise player Derrek Ha, according to multiple sources. Both Derrek and Stellar are close to signing with 100 Thieves, while Will’s situation is unknown.
