A new MTG Arena Jumpstart event has been revealed by Wizards of the Coast, containing 31 new Magic: The Gathering cards and hundreds more from Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2.  Scheduled to exclusively release via MTG Arena on Aug. 24, the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons set will showcase three feature mechanics that were designed specifically for digital gameplay. Similar to the previous MTG Arena Jumpstart event, players will choose packs to play with and can unlock any of the Magic cards via Wildcards.

Taking place two weeks after the digital launch of Innistrad: Crimson Vow, the MTG Arena Standard Metagame Challenge was packed with Mono-White and various Control decks. Mono-Green made an appearance too, but not as much as Mono-White. Sliding under the radar at the Metagame Challenge was another Aggro option via UW spirits, able to hit fast and hard while also capable of dealing with a variety of top MTG decks.

Team Sweetdreams, led by NRG’s Sweetdreams, won the $100,000 Samsung Odyssey Invitational in a landslide Monday night. Sweet’s team beat second place ShivFPS’ Team Shiv by more than 30 points, putting an exclamation point on a victory that some players felt was a foregone conclusion. Controversy surrounding the event overshadowed the competition, as participants and fans drew attention to the lack of care that went into organizing the high-stakes tournament.

Riot Games will be changing the names of two recently announced League of Legends skins—Coven Malphite and Coven Warwick—following community feedback on the technicality of the skins’ names.  The two skins were announced yesterday, in addition to four other cosmetics for Evelynn, Ashe, Cassiopeia, and Ahri, who will also be joining the Coven skin line alongside Zyra, Morgana, Lissandra, and Camille. Fans took issue with two male champions joining the Coven skin line, a skin line that had been previously reserved for female champions only.

SolaFide Esports owner Colin “Oddity” Ethan has been banned from all Riot-sponsored esports events after failing to pay the members of his League of Legends team, Riot announced today. The ban, which serves as a retroactive three-year restriction, will last until Jan. 1, 2024. North American organization 100 Thieves has recently practiced without Ethan Arnold and Spencer “Hiko” Martin to make way for three new players on its VALORANT roster, multiple sources told Dot Esports.  The remaining two players, Sean “bang” Bezerra and Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, played alongside SoaR in-game leader Brenden “stellar” McGrath, former Built by Gamers player William Cheng, and Rise player Derrek Ha, according to multiple sources. Both Derrek and Stellar are close to signing with 100 Thieves, while Will’s situation is unknown.

Following a barrage of harassing comments from top-ranked Teamfight Tactics player DarkDraven69, Twitch streamer Emily Wang said enough is enough.  Wang was recognized and rewarded for her TFT content yesterday, joining the social network Common as a partner. Less than 24 hours later, the content creator accused DarkDraven69 of making inappropriate comments in her Twitch chat during a Dec. 31 broadcast. DarkDraven69, who was rank one in China with 2,304 LP on Jan.

They grant little amounts of material and are never too close to each other, which might be the reason why many players just ignored them until now.

The release of Magic: The Gatherings new set, Modern Horizons introduced and revamped tons of powerful cards, and a whole lot of new artwork by long-term and new MTG artists. Magic: The Gathering fans understand there’s more to the game than competing, deck building, and winning. There’s also an appreciation of the amazing art attached to each card and the storyline behind it. Modern Horizons produced plenty of amazing cards outside of the Standard format, giving Commander, Modern, and even Legacy a healthy competitive boost.

The final Island Guardian of the Alola region has made its way into Pokémon Go to continue the game’s Season of Alola. For a limited time, players will be able to find and capture the elusive Tapu Fini and add a powerful Legendary Pokémon to their teams. Tapu Fini is currently available as the five-star Raid boss around the world alongside special research celebrating its status as the Guardian of Poni Island in the Alola region.
